At Eni, we are looking for a Laboratory Superintendent within Coral FLNG S.A. in offshore Mozambique.
You will be responsible for establishing and managing the laboratory team for Coral FLNG S.A., liaising with the Commissioning team during the EPCIC phase, and subsequently leading laboratory activities during the Operations phase. Your responsibilities will include recruiting and mobilising suitable Production Laboratory staff, developing and supervising their technical and safety training, and building the laboratory infrastructure, including procedures.

Main responsibilities:

PROJECT PHASE

  • Assist in establishing the laboratory to ensure readiness for commissioning, start-up and normal operation.
  • Participate in the selection of laboratory staff and ensure their competencies are fully integrated with EPCIC during the different phases of the Coral FLNG Project until the normal operation phase.
  • Review and comment on the technical and supply specifications for laboratory equipment.
  • Support the EPCIC contractor as part of the integrated commissioning team to set up the laboratory, including FAT, SAT, and other operational tests.

OPERATIONS PHASE

  • Advise the Production Manager on the quality of products, feed gas and refrigerants.
  • Monitor different process streams, flue gases and disposal environment specifications.
  • Approve all laboratory procedures and review any new methodologies and techniques that may be required.
  • Plan and approve training needs for all laboratory staff.
  • Cooperate and provide full support to LNG/liquid condensate surveyors to meet client requirements.
  • Issue quality certificates for all LNG/liquid condensate export cargoes.
  • Establish and maintain an HSE culture within the laboratory in accordance with Coral FLNG S.A. organisational procedures, manuals and standards.
  • Coordinate laboratory activities to provide analytical services that support production requirements in a safe, cost-effective manner while maintaining quality standards.
  • Manage operational environmental disposal qualities, including emissions, flue gases and wastewater monitoring.
  • Ensure continuous sampling and monitoring of natural gas feedstock, LNG, and liquid condensate product quality to alert operations personnel of any “off-spec” conditions.
  • Act as the quality control authority within the production division to ensure LNG meets SPA specifications and NGL and feed gas comply with relevant agreements.
  • Approve and accept all imported chemicals and refrigerants arriving at LNG premises from a quality perspective.
  • Liaise with external parties to perform correlation tests and demonstrate good faith and cooperation, particularly with independent inspectors (surveyors).
  • Conduct research related to plant processes to provide advice and recommendations to both operations and technical teams in case of investigations or troubleshooting.
  • Allocate the laboratory budget for equipment maintenance, device calibration, spare parts replenishment and consumable chemicals.
  • Plan for hazardous waste disposal management within the laboratory.
  • Perform additional tasks as required by the nature, specificities and operational requirements of the Company.

Skills and experience required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.
  • Fully familiar with environmental standards and Total Quality Management systems.
  • Extensive Oil & Gas industry laboratory experience, including significant LNG operations exposure, with proven experience in a supervisory or senior position.
  • Experience in LNG or other cryogenic and gas operations, such as petrochemical plants.
  • Strong knowledge of testing methodologies for hydrocarbon fluids, particularly Gas Chromatography and spectrophotometry in LNG plant operations.
  • Experience in specifying, standardising, and selecting laboratory equipment and chemicals.
  • Managerial laboratory experience.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and provide effective troubleshooting solutions.
  • Safety leadership and team building, with strong safety awareness and a proactive attitude towards safe work practices.
  • Experience with HSE requirements and knowledge of applicable regulations.
  • Awareness of incident and emergency management.
  • Excellent technical skills and equipment knowledge.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent command of the English language (verbal and written) and computer literacy.
  • Strong understanding of business aspects.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to explain technical and financial information clearly.
