Food for the Hungry (FH)

FH is seeking an experienced Financial Controller who will be under the supervision of the Country Finance Operations Manager (CFOM), the Financial Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day running of Finance operations including deputizing the CFOM when not available, review all payments below 158,000(MZN) and review monthly financial reports from all Provinces before posting in MS Dynamics. He/she will handle monthly bank reconciliations, ensure payment and submission of statutory payroll requirements and monitor transactions to ensure proper cash management for all the field offices in line with the planned program activities in compliance with FHM policy and Procedures. And:

  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels and has proven success working in team environment.
  • Excellent computer skills in MS word, excel, PowerPoint, Access and Internet and accounting systems specifically MS Dynamics, Odoo, Adaptive Planning and Jet Reports.
  • Expert knowledge, skills, and experience in principles and practices of international accounting and financial management.
  • Strong analytical, decision making and strategic planning skills with the ability to articulate complex information in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Strong ability to analyze financial data including large financial data extracts, summarize results, produce reports, and recommend appropriate actions.

What you’ll do…

As the Financial Controller some of the responsibilities will be (not a complete description of responsibilities):

  • Provide technical assistance to program staff in understanding Periodic financial reports in Adaptive Planning.
  • Work with Program teams in adjustment of transactions to due to coding discrepancies and provide measures for improvement.
  • Review payment documents, ensuring that they are complete, correct and in line with FHM policies.
  • Participate in the preparation of donor reports, in accordance with different donor requirements/templates.
  • Review the different journal templates before posting in the system.
  • Collaboratively work with the CFOM in posting all transactions into MS Dynamics monthly.
  • Work with program teams in preparing for internal and external audits and in close collaboration with CFOM, participate in the process of implementing audit recommendations.
  • Conduct regular visits to FHM fields to perform Value for Money Audits on implemented activities and produce reports with Suggested recommendations and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies (e.g. per diem policy, prequalified vendors’ list etc.).
  • Professionally, on behalf of FHM, deal with banks, government bodies and other stake holders on work related issues.
  • Together with the CFOM, identify capacity development needs and organize appropriate trainings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Commerce or Business Administration.
  • CA, CPA/ACCA professional qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years extensive experience in financial management and co-ordination preferably within an international NGO environment.
  • Having an auditing background is an added advantage.
