Karingani Game Reserve (KGR)

Accountant

Karingani (KGR) is a large private game reserve (150,000 ha) in southern Mozambique. We are looking for an experienced Accountant to join our team. The role is responsible for the processing of all accounting transactions according to the general principles of accounting daily. The Accountant reports directly to the Finance Manager.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Recording of all accounting transactions for the organisation using the Sage accounting package.
  • Responsible for all cash book processing and reconciliations.
  • Ensures all receipts and daily perusal of invoices are done, and vouchers are in order, completed properly and have bank slips/copy of checks attached.
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivables
  • Compute taxes and prepare monthly tax returns (, (Income tax, social security tax, withholding tax calculations for payments)
  • Reinforce financial data confidentiality and conduct database backups.
  • Ensure compliance with financial policies and regulations for the organisation
  • Requesting Statements from Suppliers for reconciliation monthly.
  • Production of weekly and monthly Bank reconciliations using Sage accounting package for verification by the financial manager.
  • Identify, organize, and classify accounting documents.
  • Validate and verification of supporting documentation on payments made.
  • Archive of financial and accounting documents both electronically and physically, in accordance with the organization’s standards.
  • Petty cash management for the Game Reserve (Ensure justification within the deadline of all payments made)
  • Assist in the Implementation of financial internal controls to deter fraudulent activities on funds.
  • Assist the Financial manager in control of internal & externa annual financial audits.
  • Assist the financial manager in day -day financial administration issues.
  • Assist the Financial manager in the carrying out auditing of ledgers, by scrutinising of general ledger transactions
  • Perform other administrative and clerical duties related to accounting functions as required
  • Assisting on the monthly update on the Fixed and Intangible Asset Register.

Skills & Experience

  • Professional Diploma/Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Auditing, Finance, Business Administration, or other relevant field
  • Proven experience as an Accountant or in a similar role
  • At least 2 years of experience working in accounting environment
  • Proficient in Sage accounting software
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial regulations
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Sound Microsoft Excel ability. Microsoft Office Specialist Certification is an advantage
  • Fluency in Shangana, Portuguese and English is required
  • Attention to detail and very high organizational skills a must
  • Ability to exercise confidentiality and high levels of professionalism
  • Experience in working with diverse cultures.
  • Proven commitment to integrity, quality and uncompromising ethical standards.
  • The work is typically performed in an office environment but should have ability to work extended and irregular hours.
