Position Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Agriculture Project Officer to join our team in Marara District, Tete Province. The Officer will play a vital role in the implementation of our Climate Smart Agriculture and Nutrition Project, which aims to improve community nutrition, increase agricultural productivity, and build resilience to climate shocks. The ideal candidate will have experience in rural agriculture development, strong community engagement skills, and a commitment to gender equity and environmental sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, implement, and monitor project activities related to:
- Conservation agriculture
- Animal husbandry (goats and poultry)
- Village Savings and Lending Schemes (VSLS)
- Collective marketing of agricultural products
- Deliver farmer training sessions in coordination with government stakeholders.
- Promote climate-smart practices and biofortified crops.
- Ensure gender equality and environmental protection are mainstreamed in all project actions.
- Liaise with local government, communities, and market actors to align project implementation with local priorities.
- Represent Helen Keller Intl in district and provincial coordination forums.
- Develop work plans, budgets, and progress reports.
- Support documentation of lessons learned, success stories, and data for learning and adaptation.
Qualifications & Competencies
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or Natural Resources Management.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in rural development/agriculture/livelihoods/VSLS projects.
Technical Skills:
- Expertise in Climate-Smart Agriculture and conservation techniques.
- Knowledge of VSLS and collective marketing.
- Familiarity with Tete Province’s agricultural and food security context.
- Strong facilitation, training, and report-writing skills.
- Languages: Fluency in Portuguese; knowledge of English and local languages spoken in Marara is an asset.
Other Requirements:
- Valid motorcycle driver’s license and willingness to work in rural areas.
- Strong interpersonal and coordination abilities.
